Recalling the Success History of Daft Punk

Daft Punk is a cult French electronic duo, nowadays deservedly claimed as one of the most legendary projects in electronic dance music history. The irreplaceable members of the duet are two French musicians – Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. The most distinguishable feature of Daft Punk is their appearance – the musicians always appear and perform in public in robot suits. Over the years, the Daft Punk helmet has become one of the most recognizable attributes of electronic music.

During a party in Disneyland Paris in 1993, the guys met the future co-founder of the Soma Quality Recordings record label and presented him the demo of their first single, “The New Wave”. Two years later, the duo recorded their first commercially successful single, “Da Funk”.

In 1997, Daft Pank released their debut album “Homework”, which the media have described as an innovative synthesis of techno, house, acid house and electro. The album included 16 tracks, including the incredibly hot “Around The World” track that immediately hit the top dance music charts.

Daft Punk marked the beginning of the 21st century by releasing their second studio album “Discovery”. French duo shifted from the sound that we heard in “Homework”, and the musical genre of the new production gravitated towards synthpop.

In March 2005, the band released their third LP, “Human After All”. The new record was blamed for overly repetitive and monotone sounds and the slapdash release. On November 19, 2007, the duo released the live album “Alive 2007”, containing the performance in Paris during their Alive 2007 tour, as well as an updated live version of “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”. In 2009, the French duo received two Grammy Awards for the live album and the previous live version.

In 2009, Daft Punk recorded the soundtrack for the feature film “Tron: The Legacy” and eleven new mixes for the “DJ Hero” video game.

In May 2013, the band released the fourth and last “Random Access Memories” album. The record became the most commercially successful in the project’s long history and resulted in winning three Grammy awards, taking first place in the music charts in nine countries.

In 2016, the French duo made a rather unexpected comeback to the world of music, recording two collaborations, “Starboy” and “I Feel It Coming”, with Canadian singer The Weeknd.
