Hardmatter is back and keeping it in the family with another slice of Detroit deep house. The Dirty Digital EP sees label mainstays Malik Alston and Javonntte reveal their new performance and production partnership, “Dirtydigital”, in a four-track EP that unites the jazz, soul and late-night grooves of the master and apprentice duo. With percussive grit and sensual vocals, the eponymous A1, Dirtydigital, finds Javonntte in peaktime Shelter-era form, while the Latin groove of Alston’s A2, Lightshine, serves as a rhythmic, jazzy counterpoint. A similar pairing is found on the flip with Javonntte’s Martha’s In Love’s head-bopping, solo-infused Detroit vibe riding out B1, while B2, Alston’s second contribution, rounds the EP with his inimitably rich and complex musicality.
